Easter in Britain

Easter is always on Sunday
Easter is a spring festival of new life. In the UK,
schools close for about who weeks at
Easter time. Schoolchildren and students in the United Kingdom have two-week holiday at
Easter time. It's also the first public
holiday after Christmas.
In Britain, Easter starts on Good Friday.
Hot cross buns are typical cakes that that
people eat on this day. They are like bread
rolls with spices and raisins and they
always have a cross shape on top.
The symbols of Easter are eggs, rabbits and chickens,
spring flowers and new clothes.
A special Easter tradition is painting
Easter eggs. People turn hard-boiled eggs
into different colours. For most British
children, Easter means chocolate Easter
eggs. Some families hide the eggs and the
children look for them. This is called an
'Easter egg hunt'. Sometimes children
take part in an egg race. They take spoons,
put eggs in them and run. The child who
finishes first and doesn’t drop the egg wins.
