Form 4. Grammar Box. Past Simple: Was / Were (Affirmative Sentences)

For students of the fourth (4-th) form.  

Grammar Box 
           Past Simple: was / were
            (affirmative sentences)   
We use the past simple to talk about the things that happened in the past.             
The past simple of the verb to be has two forms: 
was and were.
Present Simple            Past Simple
am                             I was
He / She / It is             He / She / It was
You / We / They are        You / We / They were

We use was and were with There.
There is                      There was
There are                    There were

We use some common time expressions with the past simple:
yesterday
yesterday morning
yesterday afternoon
yesterday evening
this morning
this afternoon
this evening
last week
last month
last year
last summer
last autumn
last winter
last spring
last Sunday
on Sunday
three days ago

was at school yesterday.
He / She was at home yesterday evening.
It was rainy yesterday.
We were at the circus last month.
You were at the seaside last summer.
They were at the library two days ago.
